| POLAR (Home) POLAR'S LIFE
SPECIAL THANKS |
PolarThis is our deaf Dogo Argentina/American Bulldog mix. She will be approx. 3 in September and has had a very hard life thus far. She was orginally rescued by a deaf rescue group from an owner who had her tied to a tree and rubber bands around her ears. She was loved and cared for back to health. Her ears didn't make it but her spirit did. She was then adopted by a family who promised to love her. Unfortunately, one of their other dogs got into it with Polar. Polar had a deep cut to the bone that was not cared for. Daerrs stepped in and got her surgery and gave her some good 'ole TLC. She was left with a bad scar on her paw, but also a big heart just waiting to love someone. About 2 years ago I lost my cat of 12 years. My husband wanted a dog--I never wanted another animal. The kids wanted a dog--guess who won?? We picked Polar and what a wise choice that was. She is so sweet. Everything went great--we taught her many signs since she was deaf: release, play easy, sit, no (which we hardly ever use), good girl/I love you, lay, wanna go out, come, and stay. She was so easy to teach we taught her one time and she obeyed. It's like having another child in the house (only this one "listens"--yet she's deaf--hmmmm....) ![]() About 6 months ago Polar started limping. I wasn't totally surprised she is a "wild and crazy" gal. She runs laps in our backyard and I thought perhaps she had pulled a muscle. A couple weeks later she landed in the vet for what the vet thought was a pulled ligament. After an x-ray they were corrected...she had severe hip dysplasia in her left leg and moderate in her right. To fix it I was given a quote of $1500.00 PER HIP. Just like most people, we don't have $1500. I cried for 2 days-how could this sweet sweet girl live her next 8 plus years not being able to get around? We tried vitamins and she had no comfort. ![]() We "shopped" around and found an orthopedic vet who is willing to do her surgery for $814.64 PER HIP. We are hoping after her first surgery she will have some major relief and maybe not have to have her second surgery immediately--time will tell. We can come up with half of her surgery and we were hoping for donations thru www.daerrs.org just note they are for Polar. She deserves a good life. She has a life of love now she needs a life of comfort. ![]() Return to top |
